Google’s mission wasn’t changing. But to fully deliver on it, they had to evolve. After several years of individual efforts building prototypes and small-run test devices, Google knew the next natural step to delivering on its mission of making the world’s information accessible and helpful, was to unify those efforts and fully commit to hardware. Bringing Google into the physical world meant creating a new extension of the brand that could bridge the gap between free software and their new premium devices.
